While it may not be the most spectacular development in social networking, the fact that you can share Google Plus posts on Facebook and Twitter as well as other places on the web is worth mentioning. After all sometimes you see a really cool post on on Google+ that you might like to share with your followers on other networks without taking the time to find something on the web that will give you a link that is sharable. Plus there is the fact that Google+ still does have many SEO advantages for your content.
Let me clarify what I am talking about because sharing and sharing and more sharing is a well known and sometimes over used part of social networking. The usual method is to upload a photo from your computer to each social network or share an existing blog post or other online content via a URL. You can share the content to all your social networks one by one or all at the same time using something like HootSuite.
That is where it usually ends. You do not traditionally share Facebook updates to Twitter or Twitter posts to Facebook. What would be the point? What is posted to Facebook and Twitter stays on Facebook and Twitter.
With Google+ on the other hand the possibilities extend beyond just posting something to Google+. In my last blog post I introduced the concept of “Organic Remarketing” as a potential by-product of Adwords traffic to your site. Now I want to further expand on the concept of Organic Remarketing by introducing sharing Google Plus posts as an additional part of the concept.
First a little background; Google Adwords recently introduced Remarketing Ads. These ads are shown to people who visit your website after they leave your site. They can appear on many websites across the Google Network and are not limited to sites that are topically relevant to your site. The idea is to bring visitors back to your site again.
Organic Remarketing could be defined as using free methods to make sure that your content appears high in search results for people who have previously visited your website. Google+ can be a big part of these efforts because people in your circles on Google+ will often see your website or Google+ posts high in their personalized search results on Google search. So the more people who come to your site and circle you or your business on Google+ the more likely it is that your content will have an advantage in search results in the future for that person as long as they are searching for a related product or service. Essentially an organic form of remarketing.
If you are trying to tap into the potential of Organic Remarketing then it just makes sense to make it as easy as possible for people to like and share your Google based content. If that content also brings people to your website then so much the better. In the image above left you see a Google+ post that I put on my business channel on Google Plus. The post is a link to a recent blog article here on the Specialized Digital Marketing website.
If you click on the little down arrow in the upper right corner of your post it opens the dropdown menu as seen in the photo. The 5th choice down is “link to this post”. If you select that option a window opens with the shareable link to that post. You can share the link pretty much anywhere that you could share any URL; Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Reddit, etc. Below is an example of how sharing Google Plus posts looks on the various networks. Pretty much no different than sharing any other URL based content.
As you can see, all the social and bookmarking platforms had no problem in sharing the link from Google+. In the cases where an image or snippet of test is displayed along with the link these elements too were brought over from the Google+ post link. This was important of course for the concept to work.
This is the best of both worlds. I promote sharing on Google Plus on my website by having sharing buttons and a Google+ Review button which launches the G+ Review Box directly and also have Google Publisher Status enabled on my site. This aspect of Organic Remarketing is just one more way to tie the important Google+ platform into your efforts.
When you do this you are still using social networks to distribute your website content but now you are adding Google+ functionality as another layer to any post you want. When someone favorites, likes or shares your post on all of these sites they will also be promoting your Google+ profile for you. I think this sharing Google Plus posts in this way an awesome tool in your Organic Remarketing toolbox. Admittedly that toolbox may be kind of empty right now but it is a point of view as much as anything much in the same way that SEO is not any one specific thing but a whole bunch of methods and tricks.
