The new YouTube comments system that was put into place last month has some new bells and whistles. Here is the blog post from Youtube that announced it. More control of comments by channel owners is one, another is that your profile on YouTube will be connected to your Google+ account if you have one.
I know, ho-hum, right? So what if there is a new YouTube comments system. What’s in it for me? If you are an indie artist or a business on a budget looking for new ways to promote your product this might be a kind of pennies from heaven development. You see, what the new Youtube comments system really gives you is essentially a very nice “business card” that can be placed on the comment feed of any video on Youtube or even Vevo.
I have been doing some SEO on social network pages and this is a development which helps in that area too. I am constantly surprised by how many large organizations don’t realize the value of doing proper optimization on Youtube pages and channels. They seem to just rely on the power of their brand to do their work for them. Maybe they can get away with that but small business and indie artists can’t.
The New Youtube Comments System Is Free Publicity
Unfortunately most indie artists on Youtube don’t seem to give any thought to SEO when setting up their channel or uploading their video. That is unfortunate because Search Engine Optimization is all about getting more organic views and that is free exposure. Before I run a promotional campaign for a video I always go over the channel and video from an SEO perspective and make any necessary changes.
My reason for saying this is explained in the video. I hope you get something useful out of the new Youtube comments setup and my take on it in the video below.
