Here is a list of film blogs because, once you have your blockbuster independent film all ready for public consumption, it is time to let the world know. There are many press release services available on the web and, depending on how much you have to spend, you can have your official press release distributed on the AP or Reuters wire.
The downside of that is one of volume because the big news feeds carry so many stories every day it is hard for one headline about an indie film to stand out enough to be noticed by news editors, reporters or bloggers. Plus, as an indie you probably don’t have enough star power in your film so that the name(s) of your cast members will seem newsworthy.
I have found it to be much more effective to send out press releases that are targeted to a specific group of media outlets who might actually be interested in the subject matter at hand. For the DIY filmmaker it isn’t usually easy to find all of the resources you need to make it relatively simple to do a targeted press release so I thought I would get you started by sharing links to a couple lists of film blogs. These two links have listings of a total of 1200 film blogs and should give you a good start.
Yes, you will have to sift through the lists on your own and find the contact information for each one who you want to send a press release to and yes not every blog is still active. But that is the lot of the indie artist trying to do everything themselves because that is all they have the budget for. On the bright side you gain a whole lot of valuable experience and insight into all aspects of the entertainment industry by taking on a DIY project.
